JOMAD 8: Show Don’t Estelle

November 28th, 2011

We talk to Estelle Tang about high school magazines, Cake Off, severely embellished luxury cruise nonfiction, angry aardvarks alliterating, Jeffrey Eugenides’ face next to a ruler, fat on books, melancholy Mel and Kochie, pantening, Jennifer Egan, everything is related to David Foster Wallace, detailed discussion of Balthazar Getty’s accent, compufuckers, fantasy writers: don’t die, Lenny Kravitz dressed as a cow, a cease and desist from NPR, The Moat, Alan Davies and is everyone hanging out without us?

  1. Maddie,

Short stories that are connected in an accidental way (you said you’re after more books like Egan’s?) – “Olive Kitteridge” by Elizabeth Strout. All the stories circle around the character Olive Kitteridge. But, for example, one will be about Olive herself, and another will be about her husband’s assistant, and another about a pianist who’s playing in a room that Olive walks through.
    And really well written.
